Raised in Carthage, MO, Master Gardener Randall Robertson’s parents always had a summer garden providing tomatoes and green beans. When he went away to college, then into the Army, the chances to “put down roots” in a literal or figurative sense were few and he had to wait until settling in Alabaster, AL to get back into the soil. Taking the Master Gardener course in 2013 was the beginning of a commitment to make the most of the chance to both learn the research-supported ways to grow and share that knowledge with others in the community. He is most attracted to growing that minimizes any negative impact on the soil and water, using minimum chemical fertilizer or pesticide.
